AboutIn the host's words.

The day before Devcon 8 opens, the world's largest cypherpunk gathering lands in Mumbai: free entry, 5,000+ people from 70 countries, 100+ speakers spanning Tor, the Ethereum Foundation and Global South digital-rights organisations. Past editions (Bangkok, Buenos Aires) pulled Vitalik Buterin, Chelsea Manning, Richard Stallman and David Chaum, and the curation is unusually tight: privacy tech, FOSS, decentralisation and cryptography with working solutions, not panels. The 2026 theme, "The Ancestral Fork", leans hard into India specifics: privacy and data-protection challenges around Aadhaar, UPI and the wider India Stack, plus open-source AI and internet-shutdown resistance. If you're building anything privacy-adjacent, this is the highest-signal free room of Devcon week and the right place to meet the people who actually ship the primitives.
