Meet the investors

Harrison Faull is the Co-Founder and MD of Aligned Syndicate, an early-stage UK angel syndicate backing high-potential startups at pre-seed and seed. Named “Best Deep Tech Investor” at the UKBAA Awards 2026, Aligned invests across a range of sectors, with a strong focus on DeepTech. Harrison has been angel investing for nearly a decade and leads the syndicate’s deal sourcing and investment activity.

Johnathan Matlock is the Co-Founder and General Partner at Empirical Ventures, a UK-based DeepTech fund backing entrepreneurial scientists at pre-seed and seed. Beyond the fund, Johnathan has personally built a 50-company angel portfolio across DeepTech and Life Sciences.

Aisling Roper is an Investment Associate at Empirical Ventures. With a DPhil in Chemistry from Oxford and experience at Deep Science Ventures and Flagship Pioneering, she brings a strong scientific background to identifying and supporting early-stage deep tech companies.
