Why do we analyze a book line by line but we don't even know what's on the ballot? For Voting Boot Camp, we’re taking over the back of SoCal Vibes and bringing book-club energy to the November election in Los Angeles.
Think a Jubilee video, but in real life: everyone sitting in a circle, figuring it out together.
Here’s how the night will actually work:
We’ll take the ballot one race or measure at a time. Someone from the group will give us a short rundown of what we’re looking at, who the candidates are or what the measure does, the basic arguments for and against, and anything important to know.
Then we open it up.
Ask questions. Push on something you don’t understand. Add context. Disagree. Say, “Wait, can someone explain that again?” The point isn’t to perform expertise or deliver a polished presentation. It’s to give the room enough information to actually have a conversation.
Then we move on to the next thing.
LA Forward will be there to help moderate, fact-check, and fill in context when we need it, so nobody has to walk in feeling like they’ve done hours of homework.
If you want to help kick off one of the conversations, sign up for a candidate or ballot measure below. You’re not giving a speech, you’re just helping get the ball rolling.
Don’t want to present? Perfect. Grab a drink, take a seat in the circle, listen, ask questions, and talk about our city.
All are welcome.
