Reading for Week 3: Capital Beyond the Obvious Chapters 5, 6, 7: Equity Crowdfunding · Family Offices & Philanthropic Capital · Non-Dilutive Capital

Welcome to The SWELL Book Club. Open to SWELL members and non-members who align with The SWELL mission. For our next read, we are diving into: Fundraising for the Rest of Us: How to Build Your Pitch, Navigate Bias, and Raise Capital on Your Terms by Allison Byers, founder of Scroobious, who has raised over $11M across two companies and co-authored California's Fair Investment Practices by Venture Capital Companies Act. Most fundraising advice is written for founders who already have the network, the pattern-match, and the warm intros. This book is for everyone else. It breaks down how early-stage funding actually works, names the bias built into the system, and gives you a step-by-step framework for building a pitch and raising capital on your own terms, whether that is venture, angels, or something else entirely. How book club works: We are reading the book over ten weeks. Starting Tuesday, 20th October, join us every Tuesday at 1:00 PM PT at The SWELL for a casual, drop-in discussion on what you've read and learned so far. NOTE: Please make sure to sign up in Luma for each Tuesday that you can make it. We'll break down the chapters, share our own fundraising stories (the good and the painful), and talk about how to practically apply the tools to the raise you are planning, or deciding whether to plan at all. The Grand Finale: We are hosting a live author event with Allison Byers herself. Date TBC. Grab your copy of the book, bring a snack, and let's read together. 📚✨ Grab your copy Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Fundraising-Rest-Us-Navigate-Capital-ebook/dp/B0DFV2PZ82/ Audiobook: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GXFTSHG8 Hosted by Sally Revell, founder of The SWELL and GenerativeHuman.ai
