Alpha School says kids can learn 2x in 2 hours a day with AI tutors, then spend the afternoon on public speaking, entrepreneurship and leadership. Many of you know Alpha through PEF, and their new a16z episode is making the rounds. They’re opening 27 new campuses this fall, at up to $75k a year. Is this where school is heading? Would you send yours?
At our last PEF Barcelona dinner, on investing beyond AI, the conversation kept drifting back to our kids and how they’re being educated. So this dinner is only about that.
10 PEF members at one table in a private room at Soho Pool House, for one Jeffersonian conversation: one question at a time, and everyone gets the floor.
Co-hosting is Christopher Pommerening, PEF member and founder of Learnlife, which runs learner-driven hubs here in Barcelona. He’ll share where he thinks education is going, from the perspective of someone building a frontier school.
What we’ll get into:
-
Can you teach entrepreneurship, or is it just what happens when kids get autonomy, adaptability and creativity?
-
Alpha, Learnlife, international school, homeschooling: what are we actually choosing between, and what are we optimizing for?
-
Which skills are worth paying for when knowledge is free?
-
Is university still the goal, a backup plan, or a detour?
-
What are you doing with your own kids right now, and what would you change?
For PEF members who are parents, future parents, or building or investing in education. No pitches, no decks.
Come with an answer: what did building a company teach you that school never did, and how are you teaching it to your kids?
