At 2pm in Lisbon, two streets a few metres apart can feel completely different. One makes you slow down in direct sun; the other gives you shade, a gentler climb and a more comfortable walk. Yet most maps still treat them as the same route.

Join Yousef, founder of GreenRah, for a free 30-minute look at how urban heat changes the way we walk. He will use a Lisbon route to show how sun position, building and tree shade, weather, and hills can affect a journey, and demonstrate how GreenRah helps people compare walking options. Bring a recent European city walk to mind: a route you avoided because it was too hot, too steep or simply uncomfortable. This session looks at what better walking guidance could look like as cities become hotter.

What you’ll take away: A practical way to recognise how heat changes a walk at street level. A live example of how shade, sun, weather and slope can change a route recommendation. Ideas for how data can support more comfortable, accessible and walkable cities. An opportunity to see GreenRah in action and share feedback.

Who should come Anyone interested in cities and walking is welcome: tour guides, designers, urban planners, students, mobility professionals, runners, tourists, older adults, and people with accessibility needs. No technical background is needed.

Your host: Yousef is the founder of GreenRah, a climate-tech project building heat-aware walking navigation. GreenRah helps people compare walking options using weather, shade, terrain and thermal-comfort information. The session includes a live product demonstration and time for questions. Get a first look at the GreenRah app and see how it can help you choose more comfortable walking routes.
