The Chicago Microsoft Power Platform User Group invites you to our October Hackathon!
The BYOD Agentic Dev Hackathon is a half-day, hands-on build session for the Chicago Microsoft Power Platform User Group. Attendees arrive with their own laptop and their own Microsoft 365 tenant, pick a scenario, and then spend time actually building an agent or an app rather than watching someone else build one. Three hosts circulate the room the entire time: the user group organizer, a Microsoft representative, and an MVP joining in person or remotely. The day closes with short demos and a set of awards voted on by the room.

Rules of Engagement Teams and Registration • Work solo, in a pair, or in a team of three. Teams of four or more will be asked to split. • Every participant registers individually and reserves a seat with the $10 donation, including members of the same team. • Teams may form in advance or on the day. Nobody is required to have a team before arriving. • If you cannot attend, release your seat by the Wednesday before so the waitlist can move. Donations are not refunded, but the seat should not go empty. What You Bring • Your own laptop and charger. There is no loaner hardware. • Your own Microsoft 365 tenant with a license that lets you build in your chosen stack, tested before you arrive. A personal developer tenant is the safest option, since some employer tenants block agent creation or connector use. • Anything you need installed already installed: the Power Platform CLI, an editor, a Git client, and a browser you are signed into. • Nothing confidential. Use sample or synthetic data only. Do not demo real customer records, real employee data, or anything your employer would not want on a projector. Build Rules • All build work happens between 10:30 a.m. and the 1:15 p.m. feature freeze. Preparation before the event is limited to installing tools, signing in, reading the scenarios, and sketching an idea on paper. • Do not arrive with a partially built solution. Reusing your own existing components, templates, or sample data is fine and should be disclosed in the demo. Pick one of the five scenarios or propose your own at team-forming time and get a host to sign off that it fits the time box. • Build in Copilot Studio, Agent Builder, or as a code app using GitHub and the Power Platform CLI. Mixing stacks within one solution is allowed and is not penalized. • Public samples, community templates, and open-source components are allowed with attribution during the demo. • Hosts help with unblocking, design decisions, and debugging. They will not build your solution for you, and they give the same help to every team. • Whatever you build stays yours. The group claims no rights to it, and nothing is published without the builder's consent.
