Software used to be a tool you owned. Now it's mostly something that's done to you: apps that harvest your data, platforms that lock you in, feeds designed to monetize the gap between your intentions and your attention. Punk software is the alternative. Software that's loyal to you. Tools you build, own, understand, and can change.

As Kanjun Qiu, Imbue CEO, puts it: “You don’t have to wait for policymakers anymore, because cheap AI coding means you can now choose, build, and tear down the software in your own life.”

This hack night is for anyone who’s unhappy with the way tech and AI is going and wants to do something about it. You do not need to be a programmer; we'll teach you how to use AI tools. Come if you code, design, write, organize, research, make spreadsheets, break workflows, hate your current tools, or have ever thought: there has to be a better way to do this.

Bring a laptop, a charger, and join the punk software movement.

How the night works:

  • 5:30pm — Doors open. Come in, grab food and drinks, meet people, and settle in.

  • 6:00pm — Kickoff + idea jam. Kanjun will share why we care about punk software and what’s newly possible with AI coding tools, then we’ll do a short activity to help people meet, surface problems worth building for, and choose a direction for the night.

  • 6:45pm — Build time. Pick something and make it.- Technical? Great.

  • Non-technical? Also great. We’ll help you get set up with AI coding tools and find a way in.

  • 8:45pm — Optional Show & tell. Work-in-progress demos. Half-finished, janky, and held together with duct tape is very much the spirit of the thing.

Imbue is an AI company building software that belongs to you. We’re building toward an open agent ecosystem where you can understand, modify, and verify AI agents, so they only work in your interest. Learn about our work and what we stand for: www.imbue.com
