Join us for our next Cloud Native Seattle Meetup at the Docker Office (Seattle Maritime Building, Alaskan Way) on Thursday, August 13th at 5:30pm.

Agenda:

  • 5:00pm - Doors Open
  • 5:30 pm - Networking (pizza & drinks provided)
  • 6:00pm - Talk: Debosmit Ray (DevZero) - Live Rightsizing: Why Kubernetes Resource Tuning Doesn't Have to Mean Restarts
  • 6:30pm - Talk: Aman Singh (Microsoft) - Agents That Wake Themselves: A First Look at MCP Events
  • 7:00pm - Networking

NOTE: Please register here to attend the event - https://tinyurl.com/cncf-sea-04

Talk 1: Most teams treat resource limits and requests as a "set it and forget it" problem — until they no longer fit. Rightsizing workloads in production has traditionally meant accepting either pod restarts or imprecise VPA recommendations with no real enforcement. This talk explores a different model: continuous, live rightsizing that adjusts resources at runtime without disrupting workloads. Debo walks through how this works under the hood, the tradeoffs of mutating running containers, and what it takes to do this safely across heterogeneous workload types. You'll leave with a clearer mental model of where VPA falls short, what "live" actually means in a Kubernetes context, and what to watch out for when implementing continuous optimization in production.

Talk 2: A Slack message that needs triage. An email landing in your invoices folder. A Discord ping, a GitHub push, a PagerDuty page at 3am. Today's AI agents can't reliably react to any of it - MCP, the protocol agents use to reach tools and data, can notify a client only while it holds a connection open, and mostly only that something changed, not what. That's about to change. An MCP working group is drafting Events, an upcoming protocol extension that lets agents subscribe to things happening in external systems and be woken when they occur - This talk is a tour of the proposal. You'll leave with a clear mental model of how ambient, scale-to-zero agents will work on MCP - and where the proposal stands on its way into the protocol.
